Caste & Kay Cheney announced that he was a member of the lawyer; James M. Sturgeon Jr. Committee on Legal Practice of the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy was called (NASBA).
In July 2009, Sturgeon was elected chairman of the board of West Virginia accounting, which regulates the accounting profession.
Sturgeon is a Certified Public Accountant in West Virginia and was a professor in the accounting area of the West Virginia State College. He has taught for the Society of West Virginia Certified Public Accountants, American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the West Virginia State Bar
Previously, he served as president of the Regional Chamber of Commerce and chairman of the Charleston West Virginia State University Foundation and is chairman of the State Tax Commission of West Virginia CPA Society.
Sturgeon received a BA in natural sciences (chemistry and physics) at Johns Hopkins University and a JD from Washington and Lee University Law School, where he is also teaching Burks award. Sturgeon received a Masters in Industrial and Systems Analysis in the West Virginia University College graduate. He is a member of Virginia, Ohio and West Virginia bars.
In addition to practicing law in Charleston for more than three decades, Sturgeon won more than 60 marathons and run a previous winner of the Trophy of the first finisher Charleston, Charleston, Charleston distance.
